We need to throw some bright light on the history of the club when the journey was started in the year 1970. The club was chattered on the 7th day of October, 1970 under the leadership of many eminent personalities of Midnapore of which the 1st President was Dr. Dibendyu Sundar Roy and the 1st Secretary Sri Nemai Chandra Saha. The first feather on its crown got attached in the year 1980, when the club purchased a piece of land as it’s our own premises in the heart of the town of which the foundation stone was led by PDG RTN. Masudur Rahaman of Bangladesh. The premise was completed and ready for its service towards the society in the year 1983-1984.
Since its inception, the club has under taken several important projects for the wellbeing of the public of Paschim Medinipur in the field of cataract surgery for the poor and under privileged people of different communities. We have also joined hands to deliver drinking water in different remote villages throughout the district. We have also delivered water pump to the poor agriculturists of different areas for the development of agricultural aspect & solution towards necessity of water. We have also engaged our self towards agricultural training to farmers in the village level for the development & motivation for growing organic vegetables and crops without the usage of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Our active participation is remarkable for polio eradication in the district and many more uncountable social services towards the nation.
Since the journey began, our hard efforts and selfless attempts towards social service have earned us enormous grace & dignity from the people of Medinipur, District Authorities and many other social organizations. In this long run, we formed a trust named Midnapore Rotary Trust in the year 1997 for composite social work in the community.
Till this time, we gathered experience and we visualized that there is a huge need for eye treatment in the district. Keeping under consideration, from 2003 onward, we started regularly organizing eye screening camps and conducting eye surgeries of large number of poor peoples in different remote areas of the entire district.
We didn’t stopped as we could see ourselves in the mission to deliver crystal clear vision to every needy and underprivileged in the society. For that, we decided to establish an eye hospital in the year 2011-2012. We added one more colorful feather on the crown of the club on the 27th day of November, 2014 as the eye hospital started its journey in the name of Midnapore Rotary Eye Hospital for the service towards the nation. The eye hospital was inaugurated by Past President R.I Rtn. Sri Kalyan Banerjee and accompanied by Rtn. Sri Shekar Mehta Past R.I Director, towards the social mission of the club members. For this noble work, complete guidelines were delivered by Rtn. Sri Hiralal Yadav and he is also the chief advisor of the hospital. Now this hospital is continuing its journey with higher quality services for different eye care treatments in our area. We have also equipped the hospital with modern technologies & modern medical equipment’s for fast and painless eye treatments & surgeries in the district. We are continuing our hard efforts regularly to deliver our best services to all patients and needy around Midnapore. Our mission & vision is clear and we are a step ahead in our bright journey by believing “Vision is the art of seeing which is invisible to others”.
